Halfway There!

We have hit the halfway mark – well for twins who typically come around 36 weeks, we are over halfway, but 20 weeks just marks the halfway point of what people think of as halfway during pregnancy. Who knows, maybe I can keep them growing until close to 40 weeks, which would be great. I know I always say this, but I really cannot believe how quickly this is going.
In the last couple of weeks not a lot has changed, but we have started our baby classes at the hospital. It seems somewhat early, but we are taking the course specifically for multiples and they don’t offer it as often as others.  So if we don’t take it now, it won’t be offered again until May. We would rather be prepared and be able to attend every week. It has been a great experience so far. All of the other parents are all having twins and coincidentally it is all of their first pregnancies. It is very fun to talk to other couples and see how everything has been going for them with their experience. I will have to say we are definitely the youngest in the group. The class covers pregnancy, labor and delivery, tours of the birthing center and NICU and what we are supposed to be doing when Aiden and Averie come home with us.
I have started to get a bit uncomfortable and started having some abdominal pain over the weekend. I will be honest, it really made me nervous as I thought something wasn’t right.  James tells me that I worry way too much. I had a check up with my doctor yesterday and everything went very well.  She went over all of my symptoms and examined where it was painful and came to the conclusion that I am just starting to have “growing pains.” She said with twins this often occurs around this time because the belly and uterus really start to grow quickly and begin to stretch the surrounding muscles and ligaments. It makes complete sense and made me feel much better. Aiden’s heart rate was at 164 BPM and Averie’s was at 148 BPM. Babies at 20 weeks are about 10 inches and 10.5 oz. We will have another growth ultrasound on the 18th of February, so we will have a better idea as to where they specifically are, but they should be close to that if they are growing as steadily as they have been thus far.
