First Doctor's Appointment

We are now at the 11 week mark and I know it is surprising, but we had our first visit to the actual doctor today. It seems crazy to me that they do not want to see you until 8-10 weeks, and then with snow mixed in, it added another week due to a cancellation, but we finally made it. What a wonderful day! Much of the appointment was discussing nutrition, vitamins, exercise, getting a flu shot, etc. BUT, they did another ultrasound, which was amazing. At this point, they look like actual babies, rather than fuzzy blobs as the first one did. The first baby was very calm and you could see the flutter of the heartbeat, it was precious! The other was going crazy! “He,” as the doctor said, was practically doing somersaults in there! The little arms and legs were flailing everywhere, it was incredible! That was definitely the point that really made this all real. James and I both got so excited!  As much as “he” was moving, you would think I could feel it, but I can’t, not for another month or two. I cannot wait! The doctor said everything looked great, they were right on schedule size-wise for their due date, which is June 20th, and both babies were about the same size. They are about an inch and a half at this point.
Since we have twins, the doctor did say it is considered a high risk pregnancy, but she said that everything was going in our favor so far and it should be lower than most twin pregnancies. She said since they are in different amniotic sacs and do not share a placenta, the risk is reduced significantly. Also, since I have not had any health issues in the past and was able to get pregnant quickly, that reduces it as well. So I will continue to eat healthy (which includes 175 grams of protein a day – holy cow), take my vitamins (which includes about 5 additional that she recommended), exercise regularly and know God will take care of the rest! We are so blessed.

This is the baby that was flailing all around!

This is the baby that was calm and peaceful.
